How Your Resistance Is Actually Serving You

Subconscious resistance.

This is one of my favorite topics, and something I see almost regularly in my clients at one point or another during our work together.

No matter when it happens, I always welcome it (and get a little excited for the client).

What the heck am I talking about? Let’s dive in!

When you decide to make a change for the better (quitting a habit, letting go of past limiting beliefs, etc.), a few wheels get put in motion energetically, as well as emotionally… you feel hopeful, excited, inspired, and motivated to get the results you want… LIFE IS GOING TO BE GREAT (woohoo!)!

But then, after a couple weeks or so, you begin to feel (for lack of a better word) pretty blah about your progress, where you are, and the path you’re on… you may even question your ability to continue and wonder “what’s even the point?”

Oh, hi subconscious resistance!

It can manifest in many ways; procrastination, disillusion, lethargy, frustration, lack of motivation, and general blah-ness.

We’ve all been there, right?

But here’s the thing: the only reason you’re experiencing resistance at this stage is because what you’re doing is working.

The absolute scariest thing to your subconscious mind is not pain, but the *unknown*. In addition, the most important job of your subconscious mind is to keep you safe.

Subconscious Logic:
Safe = What you’re used to (even if you’ve outgrown it!)

If you’re working toward a goal or outcome you’ve never experienced before, don’t be surprised to encounter a good deal of resistance along the way.

Subconscious resistance happens when your repeated or reinforced action is actually making an impact on your previous subconscious programming-- in other words: it's a sign that you are re-training your mind for what you actually want to achieve and attract. Resistance is the translation of your subconscious' fear of the unknown, and will make you feel like giving up, just to keep you safe (read: stuck), and stay exactly where you are.

If you're sure of what you want, but you feel like you've lost all motivation to do something that excited you at the start (happens a lot eh?), it could just mean what you're doing is making a difference, and your subconscious knows it!

So if you’re experiencing resistance with a goal, see it as your duty to yourself to push through, keep going, because your vision is way bigger than your excuses not to-- and you may just be closer than you think!

YOUR TURN!
